So, having done all that good inspirational and motivational Goal Setting and deep thinking about values, roles and goals, having finally finished Jinny Ditzler’s “Your Best Year Yet” you’d be forgiven for thinking that I’d have woken up raring to go, on Monday morning?
No chance! I was less motivated on Monday than I have been in YEARS!
No idea why …. Well, that’s not strictly true. There is something lurking about in the background that I’m not at liberty to discuss yet, but I’m also experiencing some frustrations with my blog / website that, for one reason or another, I’m not in a position to solve right now. And that’s niggling at me.
Worse, in spite of nearly daily blogging, my traffic is going DOWN slowly.
I first of all got all paranoid and thought that, because Google Adwords have deemed my site a “get rich quick scam” that I’d been de-indexed in the search engines too, but a quick search on my targeted key words show that this is not the case, as there I am, large as life on Page 1 of google.
As you can imagine, it’s hard to blog daily when you can’t see a steady improvement in traffic!
I think I’ve puzzled it out now and there are actually two explanations for the slight decline in monthly traffic figures (but you will have to wait for tomorrow’s blog post for that) because I need to get back on topic with how to cope with not feeling motivated *grin* before I lose the motivation to finish this post and you lose the motivation to finish reading it.
LOL – I do love my own jokes!
As I say, lack of motivation is just not something I have experienced in a very long time. So what did I do, tempted as I was just to give up and go shopping….?
I went and read some of my favourite blogs in search of inspiration and motivation. And guess what? It did the trick!
Dave Navarro’s Rock Your Day
http://RockYourDay.com / http://www.twitter.com/rockyourday
In particular his blog post which I loved a while ago but which has reappeared on the front page of his blog today “Why You Need To Abandon Your Rescue Fantasy” which reminded me very powerfully that I must power on, unmotivated or not.
Seth Godin’s Blog
Seth Godin’s blog is always worth a read – he really is a great thinker and his blogs are gloriously short. When I checked it out today there was a very apposite post called “Self Delusion & Self Loathing” which made me laugh out loud.
Yaro Starak’s Entrepreneurs Journey
I know, I know. I bang on about Yaro all the time but I am genuinely trying to work my way through his entire blog from back in the day and I do find it inspiring.
I think it’s because Yaro talks about motivation and inspiration and his own personal dilemmas as well as business and blogging, membership sites and internet marketing success.
It’s heartening to know that someone who really is one of the top pro-bloggers for me, didn’t’ really know what he was doing in the beginning and wrestled with all different kinds of business challenges too.
Today’s offering was “The 3 Levels Of Business Success”
http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/3256/why-the-best-businesses-succeed/
And Yaro has written it after attending what sounds like an amazing event in Australia organised by James Shramko, someone Yaro obviously admires. He’s done a video telling us all about James Schramko’s Fast Web Formula 2 seminar.
Then he’s off to Las Vegas soon, to the Social Media Conference and boy, would I love to be going to that one! In Las Vegas, at the Mandalay Bay, and stuffed to the gills with the good and the great in the Social Media milieu.
But I’m moving house again temporarily tomorrow – I’m going to stay in Hove, with my singing sister Heather Cairncross (follow her on Twitter @altovoice. Her flatmate Katie is moving into her very first own pad and Heather has a large, sunny, spare room going begging and it’s got my name on it.
Until I reach my business goals (as set out over the last few weeks and blog posts), one of which is either a nice little 3-bedroom house in Shoreham (more than adequate for my needs and nicely frugal) OR this amazing monster which I’ve got my eye on, that’s where I’ll be for the next few months.
Hove Actually. I’ll be checking on FourSquare for all the cool places to go!
