Over at his excellent Smart Passive Income Blog, Pat Flynn updates us on the Google algorhythm changes:
In case you didn’t hear, Google recently announced a significant change in their algorithm (the formula they use to rank pages in the search engines) that affects about 12% of websites – and you can only imagine how many websites there are out there.
Low-quality, spammy websites are really taking a beating, and many people have personally emailed me, some in tears it seems, because they’ve dropped off the radar in the search engines – some going from the 1st page, all the way to the 13th or 14th page in Google.
I wrote a post about this on Friday (link is below), but to give you the most important part, in Google’s official announcement they actually give us the formula for a successful, high ranking website…

What About Your Sites Nicola?
Well I went and had a trawl through my niche authority sites, both mine and those of my some of my clients.
Here’s some of the key phrases and my / my clients’ site results – things to bear in mind
- Very few of these sites have many (if any) backlinks) – it’s the URL and content that counts
- for most of these, I was searching from Brighton so the speciality Shoreham sites are doing VERY well!)
- Google are occasionally showing Places listings on Page 1 of the Web results ABOVE the organic search
