Comment on 2 Tiny Things That Can Double Your Business Income by James Gladwell

Having reached the end of your (very good) post, I can see why your mind was blown.

Someone told me a similar idea a short while back, showing how easy it is to produce the income you want and make it manageable (as people get freaked out by big numbers and see them as unobtainable).

Take the income you want to earn, let's say £120,000 per year.

Divide that by the number of days in a normal year, which gives you 120,000 / 365 = £328.77 you need to earn per day.

Then find out how many products at, say, £47 you need to sell to reach that target. In this case, you need to sell 7 per day to reach £329.

What if you could create something worth £97? Well then, that means you only need to sell 4 per day. What if you could create a membership site worth £97 per month? That way, you need to sell even fewer after the initial push and you'd reach your goal much faster.

Cool, huh?

You can then add your strategy Nicola, by increasing the lead flow and conversion rates to absolutely smash it out of the park!

Thanks (as always) for the inspiration.

Great, glad to hear you found someone locally. I'm sure you will benefit enormously from the process. Hopefully your Hypnotherapist gives you cd's for 'homework' between sessions.

When you listen to the Meditation, try sitting up in bed. It's always helpful to keep your heart above your knees. It sets the tone for a meditation, rather than the signal of 'I'm lying down now, so it's time for sleep'. However, your unconscious will still be actively listening to the suggestions.

All the best.

Dear Sandy

Thanks for your kind offer and I'm actually starting with someone locally on the Hypno-banding as you were too far away sadly!

And I'm listening to the Gabriel Method visualisation every night before I go to sleep (except I'm going to sleep very quickly now so I hope it sinks in anyway LOL)

The gym is going well and I'm actually nearly enjoying it, three times a week, it's my goal to get to 5 times a week. Much prefer exercising in the warm, listening to Rich Schefren.

I'll try the photo thing, Jon Gabriel mentions that but as I've never been my ideal weight it will have to be a picture of Rhianna in that white bikini !! I'll look very silly but hey ho!

I'll keep the updates coming as my weight issues get more comments than ANYTHING else I write about, which is a bit tragic.

Cheers

Hey Nicola.
Great to hear your getting motivated to lose weight. The offer still stands for the Hypno-Band, weight management process. Please contact me if you would like any more information, or have any questions.

Willpower is a great thing, I agree. But since our unconscious mind is pretty much running the show, orchestrating 7 trillion cell activities per second, it's imperative to instruct it to work for us, it's the obedient servant.

Habitual ways of being, and behaving around food can easily be changed, it does take will power in the beginning, together with unconscious programming. With persistant application, reverting back to old habits would be out of the question. I see many clients who have been on the Shakes (Ligher Life) and all sorts of so called wonder diets.....

However the emphasis is on healthy eating, a lifestyle change that the unconscious will not sabotage, since new seeds are being planted that are for your highest and best interest...you know, like staying alive!

Diets signal 'deprivation and starvation' to the unconscious, and consequently we are being set up for failure and disappointment, start eating normally again, back comes the pounds. Life style is the key, and you seem to have taken the first step, exercise...good stuff, and setting your intent.

I recommend finding a photo of yourself when you were your ideal weight, (or stick your head on someone else that reflects your body type) stick it where you can see it every day and take 15 minutes to sit and visualize yourself having lost the weight...hold that image as if it's already manifested and take your attention away from your body as it is now (you probably know how this process works if you are aware of the Law of Attraction)...and the unconscious will match that intent.

Hope that helps.
Kind regards
Sandy Robson

I like the 'what could you become world class at effortlessly?' question. It had me thinking, and my answers were similar to yours. Writer, coach/mentor, speaker, teacher.
Of course, what I do with that info is another question.
Probably time to start signing into Rich's Q+A calls again.

Nicola,

These are my 3:

1: When feeling unfocused just get deep into a task and that will bring focus instead of waiting to feel focused

2: Constantly asking myself each day "whats the one or two things I can do today to move my business forward.

3: That having a bunch of websites does not equal a business!

Have a fantastic 2012!!!

Take care

I have just been watching the "Money" programme and I am always interested to know when I hear of children with health problems, i.e. Dominic, how is it that they can't receive any financial help from the enormous amounts of money raised for "Children in Need"? I also know of a family that work exceptionally hard to raise money for their child to receive expensive medical treatments. Does anybody know who does qualify to receive money from it?

Hi there, I suspect you are a spam comment but it's an interesting question so I'll answer it! Selling on eBay is a tactic not an online business strategy. As you are probably a spam comment you haven't said what you are trying to sell or how you are trying to do it, but if you WERE a potential new client of mine, I'd be asking you about your overall business vision, your personal passions and how selling stuff on eBay fits into that vision and passion. Then we could explore the most effective tactics for you to use, given your skills and strengths. BTW, your comment is "no follow" so you won't be getting a backlink from me so don't bother coming back to try again! LOL! Nicola

Dear Ed, thanks for your comment - I'm glad you are seeing a difference too. Weirdly, I'm noticing that the stuff that is bringing the most traffic isn't necessarily the blog posts I've written although they get steady traffic and, I think, allow new visitors like you to get to know me. I think one of the things that's making the most difference to getting traffic rather than tracking it, is 1) focusing my SEO on internet marketing rather than Business Marketing (more searches but not so much established competition) and 2. Installing the EasyWPSeo Plugin which I bought after trialling Daniel Tan's <a href="http://nicolacairncross.com/seopressor" rel="nofollow">SEOPressor.</a> Both good, EasyWPSeo more sophisticated but still easy to use. (aff links) Look forward to more comments Ed, now I'm off to look at your site! Cheers, Nicola

Dear Adam, we can, of course, quote you to do that, but I'd rather have a chat about your overall web presence and internet marketing strategy and how a great Google Places Page can fit into that. Would you like to book a Strategy Session here <a href="http://thebusinesssuccessfactory.com/business-marketing/strategy-session/" rel="nofollow">http://thebusinesssuccessfactory.com/business-marketing/strategy-session/</a> and we can fix a time to talk further.
Great news Nicola and really well-deserved, too. I still dip into the money gym, so much in there that's valuable and even more relevant in the current economic climate.

Most of the time it is the stress or tiredness that stops me from writing new posts. I love to read other blogs and stay away from work for couple of hours.

The best thing is you just have to motivate yourself to write. Who knows after a long break you might write the best article of your life.

Dear James, thanks for your comment! In these days of Facebook likes and shares, Tweets etc, it's nice when someone bothers to comment. Yes, Google + is not very exciting yet but the SEO implications can't be ignored! Welcome back anytime! Cheers, Nicola

I think you should stay true to who you think you are and never do or be someone that you are not just to attract that "type of client". Towing the "corporate line" imprisons YOU in a style that is not best suited. I would think that some clients that have been lost have been lost for a multitude of reasons and not because you have "hung your arse out".

For me, I am winning a lot more business by being totally honest about who I am and where I am in my personal journey and loving every minute of it. I resonate with a lot more people by writing in an autobiographical style and enjoy it a lot more.

Definitely don't go third party, it comes across as "being made up"

Talking about a client is always a bit tricky, because they may not be in the same mindset as your style of writing and would rather everyone doesn't know about their issues or their situation as they may be in the phase of "faking it till you make it"

I think I tread the fine line by talking about real events that have occurred and if those events are a tad on the low side, I try very hard not to invite people to my "pity party", but to show that I am vulnerable, I get depressed sometimes, I lose energy and motivation............but I know there is an up and have a solution for them at the end of it.

Hi Nicola,
A really interesting read. I particularly like the analogy of being an entrepreneur is like throwing pebbles in a pond looking to make ripples. Persistence and dedication will make the ripples come!
I must admit I haven't engaged on Google+ yet but I think this article maybe the motivation I need.
Thanks

Hi Nicola,
Personally I much prefer what you have now. I fee these new designs are really dull in comparison. I like your white background it's very clear and attractive and especially if you are a visual type like me, it doesn't look threatening which the others do rather...I agree with Annia Summers, these new designs are too dense. I would stick to what you have. The new ones look like very traditional, dreary, business sites. There are couple of features that the new ones have that you could incorporate as far as accessing things but the general look........nah!

Hi Nicola

I basically agree with Neil.
I like the webpage on the left the best. I know business is black, but it doesn't attract me and I imagine the colour black would put off many of your creative clients.
The one on the right, (although purple is my favourite colour), is too hard to read and doesn't grab the eye as much as the left one.
I think it is an improvement on your old site, not just because I like purple, but because a bit of colour helps it to stand out.
But in the end go with your gut. What you like best!

Thanks for your comments so far!! To be fair, Clive was trying to stick as close to the original colours as possible, because I didn't want it to look TOO different too quickly but then introduced the purple as an alternative. Steve loves the black one (he's very austere in his design sense too) I think the purple is too "Rich Dad" and I agree with you about the lots of white - I love it.

Hi Nicola,
Just to let you know I prefer the webpage on the left. The middle one is a bit male looking with all that black, the one on the right has too much purple so I think the one on the left is the best.

Hummm... Which new look do I prefer???

Have to say, I think it's a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Sorry.

I far prefer you're original logo with the 'clock cogs'. One of the reasons is, I prefer the white background. In Clive's presentations, I think they look far to heavy and dense, so of the three, it's easy to see that I prefer the one on the left, because there is less blocking. However, I do think the more obvious tab bar in a contrasting colour is an improvement. It would look great on your site as it is now if done in the same 'gold' as the main cog and divided into separate tabs as illustrated on his site.

Lastly (sorry for appearing to shoot him down in flames) I think his colour schemes are grim. If you like black, white, silver and gold, maybe he should have used the same. This does appear more change for changes sake.

Stick to what works and tweak it. (Are you aware that both the 'home' and 'blog' tabs show the same pages?)

Hope sky pulls it's finger out.

I loved this diary approach and would like to add my two penneth worth to the whole diet thing. I completely agree diets are a complete waste of time. They are set up by the so called "diet industry" to keep us buying more and more faddy, short term fixes. Yes, you need to eat less and exercise more, but to be fair with todays lifestyle having to have regular sessions at the gym or boot camp, begin pulverised to death is not very appealing. I am a great believer however, in using some alternatives, such as definitely the supplements, I would personally seek some mind work, to work on the issues of why one over eats and how to overcome cravings, or the need to eat when sad, lonely, depressed, bored etc. I am also a great believer in these four rules: 1. Eat when hungry. 2. Eat what you want. 3. Eat consciously (i.e. no booze, reading or tv) 4. STOP when you think you are full. I am sure you know where that comes from but taking copious amounts of oils in itself is not going to help anyone lose weight let alone sustain something so grim long term.

Hi Nicola
I couldn't help but empathise with your comments on trying to lose weight and the impact of 'emotional eating'. I hope you don't mind if I suggest taking a look at a book that I found very useful - uses a cognitive behavioural approach and written really engagingly- title is "The rules of 'normal' eating (A common sense approach for dieters, overeaters, undereaters and emotional eaters, and everyone in between!" Author Karen R Koenig 2005, Gurze Books, CA. From my first meal after I read it, wow what a difference in my attitude to eating and the amount I ate! Just lastly, if I can help at all with coaching or information around this issue (health and wellbeing being my niche as a newly independent coach, let me know. Be happy to send more info about my background.

[...] I’m hopeful that the interview with Tina Tilley from the Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce will come out in the Worthing Herald this week and that it will appear online so I can send you a link. The poor Business Editor had a job to get a word in edgeways but he was making copious notes and I sent him some follow up stuff about QR Codes and how local businesses can get busy using them right now, with some examples I have found recently. http://thebusinesssuccessfactory.com/how-qr-codes-can-help-you-make-more-money-now-in-your-real-worl...
Dear James, I hope you don't mean me!! LOL. No, I know about Google ignoring the tags but I still use them and get my clients to, for the other search engines really. When they all stop paying them any attention, I'll stop using them. Having said all that, I do have one "site-for-rent" that is Page One, Position One of Google for it's key phrase, that seems to have escaped the Panda Update, as all it has is a good URL and the All-In-One-SEO plugin, but no content yet I realised to my horror the other day!

I hate to shoot a sacred cow, but Google ignores the Keywords meta tag. The Description meta tag is used to summarise a page in search results but that's it -- meta tags do not help your google search ranking. See these links for confirmation:

http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=79812

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-meta-tag.html

Think about it -- if you could get a high ranking from meta tags, why bother to write content? You'd end up with loads of sites with spammy meta tags and no content.

So Google looks at the actual content of the page and ranks according to that, and completely ignores all meta tags. They aren't indexed and they don't help your search ranking.

NB the tag is both visible to users and is used by search engines. This is not a true tag.

QR codes are great but they are also not just limited to url's. From a marketing perspective using urls to take you to a lead page / website is a good use but QR codes can provide plain text and business cards (in vcard format) as well. Most smartphones with the right software will scan a QR code setup with vcard info and prompt you to save to your contacts / addressbook so this is another useful function of these modern barcodes.

Dear Keith, thanks for you feedback, I really appreciate it. I will try and make the ezine narrower by having a smaller header next time. I also need to make the sub-headings bigger because they came out smaller for some reason! When you say the grey coloured items, do you mean on the blog here or in the ezine? Cheers, Nicola

Re new newsletter. the layout is too wide for my internet explorer
This page and your other newsletters are OK

Also the Grey coloured items and boxex on this page are too feint and have to be hunted for.

I like your work but spoilt by some technicalities

I think your USP is a bit rambling. Here is my version: “The Business Success Factory – Your 21st Century outsourced marketing department. We will slash your marketing budgets by 50% and increase profits by at least 20% within a year – or your money back, guaranteed!”

Dear Graham, I use Max-Banner-Ads on my NicolaCairncross.com site to promote carefully chosen affiliate links for products I actually use myself. I think there are ad brokers too where you can make real estate available on your site but you have no control over what shows. You can also use MBP for Google Adsense but you need monster traffic to make any real money. And of course, you don't want distractions on the pages where you want them to take action like give you their name and email or buy something. Cheers, Nicola

Max-banner-ads - Hi Nicola, thanks for this, how do you get advertisers, is their a list specific to individual industries or do you go out and find affiliates? - also, what would be the charging structure for banners, is their a general rule.

We work with a wide range of Pension Loan Providers who offer various products with different Terms and Conditions.A Pension loan is an unsecured loan which allows you to borrow a certain percentage of your pension fund as a loan - up to 50%. There are no credit checks and you do not need to prove your income. A poor credit rating does not matter. The loan can be used for any purpose.

Pete, I've emailed you to let you know I think I've fixed the podcast episodes 4 & 5. I was creating them in Sony Vegas and then rendering them as MP3's but as these were video interviews, I'd left the video bit on the project, which it didn't like when rendering as an MP3. I've deleted the video, saved it as a new project, rendered as an MP3 and then re-uploaded them to Amazon S3. Seem to work fine now! Cheers for letting me know! Nicola

Yes, I too believe that consistent 'QUALITY' blogging is a great marketing and branding process that will ALWAYS remain out there on the worldwide-web. It obviously helps to blog and write something that you are sincerely passionate about, as opposed to blogging, just for the sake of aimlessly blogging. That won't get you anywhere.
